Aforacare is start-up that provides non-traditional dental insurance. If you’ve heard of Oscar, you can think of Aforacare as the Oscar of dental insurance.

Role and Responsibilities

I was the lead front-end developer for the initial Aforacare launch. I developed the outward-facing site and both the internal member portal and internal provider portal.

The Technologies

The pages compile using a static-site generator that I built and used on a number of projects developed by my company, Mutable Squares. I built the static site generator using Node.js and Gulp.

I built the site using HTML, SASS, and vanilla Javascript. I chose not to use a modern front-end framework such as React or Angular because the site is relatively simple and pages are rendered server-side. A front-end framework was out of scope and unnecessarily complex.

The internal portal has a number of beautifully designed animations. I used Velocity.js to achieve those animations in a clear, preformant, and maintainable way.

The Outward Facing Site

There are a number of pages that are outwardly facing. These pages are information and marketing focused.

Member Portal

The internal portals are where members and providers spend most of their time. This is where members search for providers, schedule appointments, pay bills.

Provider Portal

The internal portals are where members and providers spend most of their time. This is where providers manage patients, appointments, and create invoices.
